The cheap walmart brand works fine  \u2013 just make sure you buy the yellow cap spray. The blue cap doesn\u2019t contain lye (sodium hydroxide) or not enough to do the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The process is easy, put your piece in a garbage bag \u2013 do this \noutdoors \u2013 and spray ever inch of it liberally with the oven cleaner. \nClose up the bag and leave the piece in a warm location for probably 24 \nhours. I usually give it another spray after 12 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the piece out, give it a good scrubbing with stainless steel wool. Don&#8217;t use copper based wool, it will transfer to the iron and you can&#8217;t remove it. Repeat the process as necessary. It may take several application to get the piece clean.<br><br>If there is anything left over, it&#8217;s likely pure carbon.
